Booster Shot for Keona

Last Wednesday, I brought Keona to her pediatrician for the booster of her immunizations. It's a booster for influenza and two other immunizations that I forget the names. Lil girl doesn't like using elevator so when we went to the 8th floor of the medical tower building using the lift, she hugged me tight and cried. When we got outside the elevator, she had this very huge voice, shouting in joy that at last we are out of the elevator. While waiting for our turn, she played at the hallway. But when we got inside Doctor Mike's clinic, she right away cried even before Doc had a physical check on her.

I'm happy that this is the last immunization that she has for this year. The next one will be when she reaches 2 years old. It's a booster for IPV or pneumococcal vaccine.

Alarmed by Keona's frequent poop

Yesterday while at work, I got a call from home that Keona had already poop 4 times. Grandma told me to just fetch them at the mall when I got out at work for they brought Keona with them. When we were on our way home, Keona poop again and was followed by another 2 poops when we were at home with approximately 1 hour gap in between.I was alarmed because it became very frequent and it's wet. I called up Keona's pediatrician for advice and he told me that the best thing to do is to have a stool exam the soonest that we can. We need also to keep her hydrated so we have to frequently let her drink water and have her take a pediatric hydride.

We decided to wait for another poop and bring it to the laboratory for examination then we'll just buy pedialite on our way to the hospital. 1 hour has passed but there's no poop. Two hours passed and still no poop came out so we decided to just go to bed for I was already very sleepy.

Until in the morning, there's no poop, so perhaps it was just viral thing or maybe due to the many raisins she ate the other night. She likes to eat a raisin a lot that she consumed quite plenty the other night.

Chickenpox Vaccination

We visited Keona's pediatrician/nephrologist yesterday to have her scheduled chickenpox immunization. We waited for quite long since we are number 6 patient in a row. As usual, my little girl was very energetic and full of enthusiasm shouting, dancing, running in the 8th floor of the medical tower building. But when she saw her doctor upon entering the clinic, she started crying out very loud even before the vaccination is being administered to her. Doctor Mike even bribed her for a lollipop candy but failed. She continued crying. Doctor Mike said that it's good that we have her immunized since many are afflicted with the disease nowadays due to the hot weather.

It's been 3 months already since we have her urine culture and we are doing it again now. Hopefully, there will be no more bacteria so my little girl can stop taking her daily low dose of antibiotic as prophylaxis since it's been already six months after her operation. She also had her CBC to check her hemoglobin so we can shift to another brand of vitamins. Have a great day friends:)

Today, I got the result of Keona's urine culture and sensibility and I'm really sad. The result reveals that she's having a breakthrough infection again. The bacteria is called proteus mirabilis :((

Dillema of a Working Mom

Mother's Day Special / Innocenti DeclarationImage by LuisVallecillo via Flickr

When I gave birth to my child, I have always wanted to breastfeed her. I mean, I want to exclusively breastfeed her without using infant formula because I have read somewhere that " a mom's milk is for her child while a cow's milk is for the calf". This statement somehow struck me and I said to myself that I should breastfeed my child no matter what. But the problem comes in when my baby was already two months old because it is already my time to resume to work after my 2-month maternity leave.

So I bought a pump, a rubberized manual breast pump but I cant keep the expressed milk and bring it home for my child's feeding because i see particles of rubber and I'm afraid it's mixed with the milk.

Then, my child had constipation and my daughter's pediatrician would tell me that if only she is fully breastfed, we would have no problems with her poop. Whew! this somehow made me feel guilty. If only I can stay home all day and just take care of my baby and fully breastfeed her! But I can't. I need to work to meet both ends!

Then the pediatrician suggested that I would use an electric pump because it's easier and faster to express milk using it. So, off me and hubby went to the department store and look for an electric breast pump. Though it is a little pricey, we just bought it for the sake of our baby. Truly it works! It pumps like a baby sucking on my breast. It mimics the way a baby sucks in her mothers breast so it worked. I would just store the expressed milk in a refrigerator and when I go home, I brought with me a cooler so it stays cool even when I'm traveling.
