Are you Parenting Responsibly?

Being a parent is the greatest joy in the lives of those blessed with children. When we think of the ideal “good parent”, a barrage of things come to mind such as the ability to discipline fairly, nurturing, encouraging, and providing love and safety. Our children are such a vital part of our lives that we can’t imagine life without them, or vice versa. As a result, many parents stop to ask themselves “what if I died suddenly”. Of course good parents have a backup as far as who will continue raising their children (like an aunt for example). But good parenting doesn’t just encompass “the now”, but also the “what ifs”. Having a backup plan in place for someone to step in and raise your kids is great, but a responsible parent needs to ensure the child’s financial security. Appropriate websites, such as one like www.lifeinsurancerates.com, provide a parent with an insight into the various types of policies that can safeguard their child’s future.

Is Life Insurance Worth the Expense?

Entertaining the thought of dealing with life insurance sounds about as much fun as standing in line at the DMV. However, part of being a responsible parent is to ensure your child has ALL the care that can possibly be given. In a financial article by US News, the author sites a recent survey by the nonprofit LIFE Foundation in which one in four Americans considering canceling their life insurance policy in order to save money during the recession. The author then points out some reasons of consideration that argue why this is not a good decision. As for parents, this certainly does not attest to the role of a good caregiver. Sure, you can take your child to the dentist, buy them the latest “must have” videogame console, and get them that expensive iPad that they swear is going to help them improve their homework. If you are willing to go the distance to provide your child with proper dental care and give him/her the luxuries you didn’t have as a child, then why not do what really matters, and make sure your children will be cared for properly after you are gone?

The Challenges Faced by Parentless Children

In the tragic event of your untimely death, it is safe to say your kids will be cared for by a family member, or by your spouse if you are married. Regardless, there will be major unforeseen financial expenses left over for your spouse to deal with who is now a single parent, or your family member will be taking on the major expenses that come with having an addition to the household. Either way, the caregiver will most likely have to work additional hours in order to provide for your child. Unfortunately, this will negatively affect your child on multiple levels.

Having experienced the tragedy of losing a parent, your child should be in a situation where a loving guardian can nurture and comfort them. If you failed to obtain a life insurance policy, your children’s caregiver will be unavailable at no fault of their own. They will have to work more in order to provide your child with life’s necessities. By purchasing a life insurance policy, you are ensuring your child will be in the constant loving care of someone who can help them get through the troubling times ahead.
Another challenge your child will face lies in their educational future. As is the norm, most life insurance policies pay out five to ten times worth your total annual income—more than enough money to make sure your child has a college education, and the things he/she needs in order to get through school and learn, play and grow with peers.

Protect Them, Always

We all hope to live long, happy and healthy lives. But the truth of the matter is that nobody has an oracle in their backyard where they can gaze into the future. Terrible tragedies happen all too often, and though we have no guarantee that we won’t fall prey to tragedy, we do have the ability to make sure that such a tragedy won’t ruin the lives of our children. Do some research online, contact a life insurance professional, and find out which policy will best protect your children.

Back to Work

I have not updated this blog for a long time. I have been on vacation for one week and I have been enjoying it a lot. To make the best out of my vacation, I decided to slowdown on my online world to spend quality time with my family which I rarely do being a full-time working mom.

We went malling while I was on vacation, play and watch learning videos on DVD for Keona and stroll in the neighborhood most afternoons.

Have a great weekend friends.

Looking for Helper

Mom-in-law called me up in the office and told me to ask help from my Mom in the province to look for a house help. One of the house helps ask permission from her that she'll be going back home in their province and harvest rice in the fields. We can't ado anything because it's her decision to go home, so now, we are looking for a replacement.

I hope we can right away find a new one. Have a nice weekend friends.

Happy Birthday to my Mom

zwani.com myspace graphic comments

I'd like to greet my mom Alice a very happy, happy birthday. I have always admired the courage of my Mom. She withered a lot of storms that come her way in spite of being alone, a single mother. Since my father passed away, 4 years ago, my Mom remained strong and steadfast.

She's soft-hearted and yet, she also has a strong spirit, bringing up her kids alone, working overtime to meet both ends meet. I love you very much Mom and have a blessed birthday. I hope and pray for your good health always, more birthdays to celebrate and a peaceful life forever. Happy birthday Mom and we, your children love you very much.

Mild Fever

Me and hubby returned home from work a little late yesterday because we dropped by at the grocery store to buy Keona's milk, biscuits and other personal necessities. Upon arriving home, Keona was asleep because she went with Mom in the mall in the afternoon.

Hubby sneaked into our room, very careful not to create a sound, so Keona won't wake up. But Keona, upon hearing some footsteps right away looked at who has arrived and upon seeing hubby, she right away smiled and said "Hi Papa".

I hurriedly changed clothes and she demanded that she wants milk from me. Yes, I'm still breastfeeding her even if she's already 2 years old. My milk is yummier compared to her Nan HW, she says whenever I teased her that I'll stop breastfeeding her because she's already a big girl.

While I do my breastfeeding, I usually caress her, run my fingers on her hair or do massage on her legs. I noticed her temperature is unusually high and I compared it to mine just by simply putting my hand on my forehead. I really had a doubt so I grabbed the digital thermometer and checked her temperature. She indeed has a mild fever. It was 37.2 degree celsius. I right away told hubby about it and we had her take paracetamol which is stored in the cabinet.

As night deepened, we continued to monitor on her temperature and after taking on her 1:45 am dosage, her fever did not return anymore. In the morning, she's still asleep while we are off for work. So we just told Mom to observe her temperature and call us at work if there are problems with her. Hopefully, it will not go back.

My Sister's Visit

My sister who is a practicing nurse in our town came over home because she has a seminar regarding rabies. Since she is on a 3-day stay-in seminar, she accompanied me the other night home to visit Keona for she miss already my lil girl. It's been quite long already since the last time she met with Keona. Lil girl did not know how to walk yet.

When we arrived home, lil girl was very ecstatic. She jumped with joy and showed her antics and tricks to her aunt. She danced and sang her fave songs. My sister said lil girl has grown so fast and she's becoming very charming and beautiful(my heart sings upon hearing this from her...a mom indeed, LOL).

Super behave Keona

I have been busy lately. Aside from hosting a seminar in our work, Mom was hospitalized because she had a bad fall from our roof gutter to the ground. And Keona was surpisingly behaving at the time when neighbors went home to help Mom and when rescuers from 911 went home. She understands that Mom was in pain. She would even caress and touch Mom's arms that has many bruises. I'm really happy and kinda surprise of the behavior that Keona's is showing lately. She's becoming mature and she understands what's going on with the people around her.

Verbal Hugs and Kisses are Foods for Your Child's Emotional and Mental Health

We parents would really want our children to grow up happy, secure, physically, mentally and emotionally healthy.

I have read an interesting article about developing our child's emotional and mental health. An internationally known psychiatrist says that most of those unhappy and unsuccessful, all angry at the world are among those who have never been hugged and kissed by their parents when they were kids. And the best hugs and kisses that are "food" to a growing child's emotional and mental wellbeing are the verbal ones , words and gestures that say I love you because you are you.

Unfortunately, family counselors say that a lot of parents are unaware of the vital role that "verbal hugs and kisses" like praises and compliments - play in their growing child's emotional and mental development. Many parents think that hugging and kissing aren't their general style. We are quick to criticize our children but slow to compliment them. We often admired them but seldom express our admiration.

Family counselors are one in saying that praises and compliments have more lasting effects on the growing child than the physical ones when these are done not as acknowledgment or an expression of thanks for a job well done but as spontaneous manifestation of parental affection.

Most parents, fathers especially are afraid to hug or praise their children for fear of spoiling them. But ego, they say, enriched by feelings of security and being loved is much better than an ego that has been deflated for lack of self-esteem.

There are ways for parents to learn to see more of their child's good qualities and appreciate them, making hugging them a pleasure and an enriching experience:

  • Look for good qualities in your kids which you haven't noticed.
  • Treat your kids the way you treat your friends.
  • Take note of the good things your neighbor and friends say about your children and repeat what from them.

Hug your children once in a while and hug the one who needs to be hug the most real tight. As family counselors and parenting experts point out, " The child who is hardest to hug usually needs the hugging most!".
