Fever Due to Cough and Colds

Little girl had a fever on June 30, 2013 (Sunday).  So when Monday comes, she had to skip school because we had her checked by Dr. Adolfo.  She was examined in the clinic and the pediatrician said we just have to continue her paracetamol for the fever.

She advised me to stop using the Pediasure as her milk because she already reach her ideal weight.  We have to shift to Enfakid.  With regards to her vitamins we have to shift from Profan Appetite Stimulant to Profan TLC for her maintenance.

On Tuesday, Keona goes back to school because she has no fever anymore although  her cough and colds somewhat is becoming full-blown.  However, on Wednesday dawn, her fever recurred at 38.5 degree Celsius.  So we had a check up again, lab test consisting of CBC and Urinalysis.  CBC is normal but in urinalysis, there were few bacteria.  Dr. Adolfo made us repeat the urinalysis - a clean catch, mid stream collection of urine because she doubted that the bacteria is just caused by the contamination in urine collection.  True enough, the second urinalysis result revealed no bacteria.

This time, her medications consist of:

Disudrin - 5ml / 3x/day - for the colds (advised to take for 2-3 days only)
Ambroxol [Expel] - 5ml/ 3x/day -for cough
Calpol - 10ml - for Fever

She did not go to school from Wednesday to Friday due to her cough, so that she can rest as well. We thought she is all right already in spite having cough and colds but on Saturday (June 13), she had fever again at 3pm-37 degree Celsius.  At around 7 in the evening it became a high grade fever rising to 38.5.  Since it's a Saturday, we brought her to Emergency Room at Limso to be checked by a resident physician because   I suspect, she is having lower respiratory infection.

When we arrived at the Emergency Room, the resident physician interviewed us and advised us to still undergo laboratory exams - CBC and Urinalysis.  After waiting 1 hour for the result, we have it interpreted by the resident physician.  She then explained to us the result.  

The physician explained thoroughly every bit of information in the result to us which makes me rally appreciate her. Her CBC is normal, generally but her white blood cell is high which means her body is fighting an infection.  What kind of infection? That's the question, and according to the result, it is a bacterial infection.  So the physician recommended that she will take antibiotic.  Her medication is:

Amoclav (400 mg/57 mg per 5 mL  Powder for Suspension) - 4ml 2x a day for 7 days

As of this time, she is still taking her antibiotic and there is still few cough and colds.  Hope it will be gone forever.  Thankfully, she is also back to school last Tuesday (July 16).

Note: She needs flu vaccination - Php1,100
          She needs also IPV booster - Php1800

Fever is Gone

Keona's fever is gone today but I really fervently pray it will not go back because if it will, she will have to undergo x-ray and it could mean inject-able antibiotic will be administered to her if infection persist in spite of the oral antibiotic she's taking now.

We will be monitoring her the whole day and hopefully she'll be in full shape when her birthday comes, that's 2 days from now.

On another note, I'm hoping I'll be able to finish all the reports I need to accomplish at work. I'm planning to have a project which I'm gonna work soon and I hope it will be a success.

Keona has Fever

When hubby and I arrived from work yesterday. Keona was still asleep in MIL's room. When she woke up, she looks tired and cried. MIL told us that she thinks Keona is having a fever because her body temperature is unusually high. I put my hand on her forehead and neck and I feel she's having a fever so we got the thermometer and it's 37.8 degree celcius. She's having a fever indeed.

I was wondering how much is the dosage for her paracetamol syrup so I called up Doctor Mike, her pediatrician. It's 5ml every 4 hours for the tempra paracetamol for she's turning 3 years old already on the 29th. I bet she's having fever because she slept very late the other night, 2:00 o'clock in the morning and she doesn't eat much. So her immune system must be very weak. Last night she requested for her favorite french fries and hamburger so hubby bought for her.

I'm glad she's not having fever now and hope it will continue to be gone...

On another note, I am glad I don't have to report for work today because I'm supposed to go to school but since it's already semestral break, I'll just stay home. It's very timely because I can take care Keona.

Fever and Cough

We were very happy playing with the shower last Saturday night. Keona was full of vigor playing with the water. When we were already settled and were about to sleep, I noticed that Keona's body temperature is unusually high. I got the thermometer and checked her body temp and indeed, I was right with my suspicion. She's having a mild fever, 37.5 degree celscius.

She was having cough as well which I suspect could be the cause of her mild fever. We brought her to Doctor Mike's clinic yesterday and she was in the mood. She said 'hi" to Doc Mike and she's very well behaved when her doctor checked her physically. She even played the toys in doc Mike's clinic.

Doc Mike prescribed her an antibiotic because she's having a lot of phlegm. I bought (Amoclav)-Co-amoxiclav and has to be taken 2x/day with a dosage of 3.5 ml. We have to let her take also Bricanyl expectorant with the dosage 3.5 ml, 3x a day. If there's fever, we just let her take Tempra paracetamol drops, 1.5 ml, every four hours.

I think the erratic weather and her being a late sleeper are the cause of these. I myself is having cough but not that really severe. I'm just taking Ascof (Lagundi) medicine so that I'll be cured. I hope everything will turn back to normal soon and my little girl will recover from her cough because she's having a hard time sleeping during the night.

Keona's Fever Goes Back

I got a call from Mom today that Keona's fever is back. It shoot up top 39.1 degree celsius. I called her pediatrician and he advised me to have her take antibiotic. Cefaclor 250 mg / 5 ml and a dosage of 2.5 , 3x/day.

I hope her fever will be gone soon. I can't be out from work because we are expecting a visitor and I'm expecting to be interviewed. I wish I can just stay home and take good care of her.

I Dreaded Fever

I got a call from Mom last Thursday informing me that Keona was having fever. I was literally down and could not concentrate on my work. I called Doc Mike, Keona's pediatrician and he advised me to have Keona take paracetamol every four hours. Since Keona was also vomiting Doc Mike told me to have her drink Vometa (Domperedone) - 2.5 ml. every four hours.

Keona's pediatrician told me that it might just be a viral thing. We just have to observe her and if fever continues the following day, we have to bring her to the clinic and do some laboratory tests.

Keona's fever continued to go down until it reached to normal level. Thankfully, it did not return and I was really relieved.

Here comes the fever again

Just when I rejoice of Keona's KUB (Kindney, ureter, & bladder) ultrasound result, she's having fever again. We brought her to the pedia and her doctor said that it might be just viral infection because there's no bacteria growth in her urine culture which we just did few days ago. If it's just viral, fever will be gone in 3 days. Today is her third day, and so far, she has no fever since midnight. Hopefully it will not go back today.

What an indescribable feeling!

Keona's surgery was scheduled at ten o'clock in the morning. So i was the one carrying her towards the operating room. She was really crying so hard upon seeing those people clad in scrub suits wearing face masks. So I had to figure out how to make her stop crying! Then there were student nurses who kept on entertaining her, and she finally stopped crying. I was asked where is her VCUG plates and told the anesthesiologist that it's in our house. He told me that the surgeon needs it so I requested one student nurse to tell my husband to get it home.

The VCUG films finally arrived at around 12:00 noon and the team of doctors were complete at 12:15. The anesthesiologist instructed his assistant to put some medications through intravenous and asked me to place my baby on the operating table. I was really anxious and the feeling is indescribable. Then the doctor said " Ma'am you can go out now". Upon hearing it, I right away looked at the wall clock. It's 12:30PM, start of Keona's operation. Then I walked, took off the scrub suit that i wore and get out of the operating room. At that point, I can't help myself but tears really fall on my face in spite of really trying to keep myself strong. Then I see hubby at the entrance of the OR. When he saw me, he asked "How is Keona?". "Her operation has just started", I replied. Then we went straight to our room at the fifth floor.

We right away take our lunch and just stayed put in our room so that if there were things needed, we can right away attend to it. Few hours after, a voice promt from the nurse station echoed in our room "A doctor's call for Keona's watcher, please go to the nurse's station". Upon hearing it, I was literally quivering in tension and nervousness, my mind asking what must the doctor needed from us in this time when the operation is on going. I rushed to the nurse's station and the nurse handed me the phone. "This is Dr. Bermejo, are the VCUG plates already in the operating room?''. "Yes doc", I said. "Ok, thank you. Then the line went dead. I was relieved that the resident doctor was just making a follow-up regarding the VCUG plates. I went back to our room and told hubby that Dr. Bermejo was just asking Keona's plates.


We tried to relax in the room, scanned through the different channels on cable TV. Then at around 3:30, there was another voice prompt from the nurse station. "Watcher for Keona, Dr. Manalaysay is on the phone, please go to the nurse's station".When I was approaching at the nurse station, the nurse who was holding the phone, covered the speaker and asked me in a low voice "Ma'am, your patient is a girl right?". Yes, she just looked like a boy because she has short hair and she doesn't have an earrings, I replied. Then she said, Dr. Manalaysay (Keona's Nephrologist) is on the line Ma'am. Just talk to him. When I talked to Dr. Manalaysay, he told me that he just wanted to ask permission from us, since our baby is already in the operating room, they might as well just circumcise our baby. To my surprise, I told him "Doc, our baby is a girl! There's nothing to circumcise!". " Oh, sorry, I just wanted to inform you also that the operation went well. I took some photos of it, I'll go to your room later, in a few minutes". To which I replied, " Thank you". I now understand why the nurse asked my baby's gender and as if there's a question in her face while handling to me the phone.LOL

After around 5 minutes, Dr. Manalaysay went to our room, smiling at us. He showed us photos of the operation, explained to us that it was good that we decided to have surgical correction because Keona will never outgrow her reflux because of the placement of her ureters. He said that the operation went well, we just hope that the recovery will be good also.

At around 5:00PM, a nurse went to our room and told us that the operation was already finished and 1 watcher is needed in the recovery room. I right away went to the recovery room and there, I saw Keona lying, groogy, opening her eyes every now and then and would cry a little saying "Momma". Attached to her are machines i don't know. All I know is that they are there to monitor her vital signs. After 1 hour in the recovery room. The personnel In charge there said that her vital signs are already stable and she would be transferred already to our room.

Fever Again!

I was not able to go online for several days because aside from not having a yaya to take care for my baby, Keona is having fever again. I was wondering why it keeps on coming back. We have not seen rashes on her body which is a sign of a dengue fever. Though her fever does not reach as high as 39 degree celsius but her mood is really different. She's very irritable. She doesn't like to play and she just always want me to carry her. Hope she will recover soon. I have gotten already her urinalysis result but I don't know how to interpret it. Still waiting for the result of her urine culture and sensibility. We never discount the possibility of a bacteria breaktrough again from her ureteral reflux. Since last night, she didn't have a fever. Hope it will not come back again and that the antibiotic that she's taking worked for her.
