A weekend date with hubby

Me and hubby usually has a date during Saturdays. It's the only day that we can have an exclusive time for each other, just the two of us. We usually spend Saturday afternoons having dinner or visiting to parks, just to relax from the busy weekdays that we have. Last Saturday, we dined at Times Square and ate kinilaw and kilawin (hubby's favorite which becomes my fave too). Kinilaw is like sushi, a fish mixed with cucumber, radish, vinegar and spicy siling labuyo. Kilawin is made from goat meat which is really delicious. We had a great time last weekend:).

A morning with so much crying

I have a hard time getting out of bed today. Keona is glued to me, breastfeeding. Even if she's sleeping, she knows it when I get out of bed and just put pillows around her. She would cry out loud and shout "Mama, dede!". She wanted to breastfeed. Afraid of being late for work, I got out of bed and had my bath. She woke up too. When it was time for us to bid goodbye, she had "full-volume" cry. My heart bleeds seeing her. If only I can just stay home and be with her. But I can't. I need to work.

Tuesday Quotable Toots (1)

Make the most of each day.

Be good to yourself.

Life is a gift, never to be taken for granted.

Everyone needs to have another chance.

Even a perfect egg must break for new life to begin.

Life is what we make it.

Just a quick note!

Hubby suggested that we'll have the wedding photos transferred to the PC through memory card reader. I remember that one of my office mates has it, so I brought the memory card with me. I have already the photos. Will post some of them next time. Just can't do it now for I'm really busy. Need to bring Keona to her Pediatrician for a second shot of IPV vaccine. Have a great day friends:).

Goodbye to our Canon camera

It's official! We are going to replace our canon camera. Me and hubby went to the Canon sales and service center which is located in Bajada, Davao City, just in front of Robinson's Supermarket. A goegous lady entertained us when we arrived there. She got the camera and showed it to their technician. When she returned, she told us that it's the lens that has a problem and needs to be replaced. The cost of the lens is 3, 900 pesos plus a labor of 950 so the cost of the repair would total to four thousand plus, almost 5K. Sigh. It's huge. So me and hubby decided to buy a new one. We are choosing between Canon or Sony because there's a service center of these two brands here in Davao City.

Lil Keona loves mangosteen

We are feeding Keona different kinds of fruits like banana, papaya and any fruit that's in season. Lately, I was able to buy mangosteen and let her try to taste it. Wow, she loves it! She would clap her hands and flash her big smile then stretch her hands to ask for more even if her mouth is still full:). I'm very happy that she likes it because she's already fed up with eating papaya. We used to feed her papaya a lot due to her poop problems. Papaya was really effective when she was having chronic constipation aside from the prune juice that we gave her. It's a delight also to note that mangosteen price here in our place are going down this time. From it's usual 80-180 pesos per kilo, which for me is too pricey, it dropped to just 40 pesos.

Beautiful Sunday

It's a wet Sunday today. Keona get up late because aside from the cold weather, she got to bed last night also late. I would have wanted to have my nap but Keona has been awaken from her morning bedtime schedule. I get the time to blog for she's with her Pappa, playing, walking and wearing her favorite new sandals, her headband (which she usually doesn't like to wear), and her skirt which fits her on just now because it's bigger when it was given to her during her birthday. Thanks to Te ping for that beautiful skirt:). Happy Sunday everyone! Enjoy your weekend:)

Our camera crushed!

Hubby took a number of photos during Troy's wedding ceremony at St. Joseph church and at Davao Insular hotel, the wedding's reception. We were very excited to see the photos when we get home at quarter to eight last night. Hubby was about to transfer the photos to the PC when he found out that he can't view it! When he turned on the camera, an error appeared regarding the lens. Whew! We were really disgusted! I asked hubby about what is the possible cause of it and if there are possible ways for him to get it fixed. He searched for the manual and I accidentally bumped him our room door because I was hurriedly removing my contact lenses for it was getting dry and I was really not comfortable of it and tension raged. We did not talk with each other for a while.

He watch TV in the living room and I fixed myself, removed my make up then put Keona to bed. Two or 3 hours have passed and yet Keona did not sleep. She was still in a "playing mood" and in high spirit. And suddenly she shouted loudly calling "Pappa" several times which prompted hubby to get inside the room and get her out. They stayed in the living room seeing and singing her nursery rhymes on DVD. When finally lil girl's enthusiasm wears out and she becomes really sleepy, she called me up. Hubby had no choice but to give Keona to me who doesn't sleep without being breastfeed. This time, he is already calm and me too. I was already sleepy and then the topic regarding the camera is now brought up again. He told me that we should get it fixed because I need it for my blogs and of course for our souvenirs. I retorted to him saying I'm not the only one who needs it. He needs it too. I told him, what about his world-less Wednesday on his All About Keona. He smiled and readily agreed that we both need it. He volunteered to look for a service center for Canon camera. I said if the repair is more than Two Thousand Pesos, we better buy a new one. Hopefully, the cam will be repaired and we'll have the photos of Troy's wedding! Can't wait to see it:)

Wedding invitation

Troy gives us their wedding invitation today. It's nicely done. It is contained in a custom-made envelope with a ribbon in it colored magenta which is their motif. I like the emboss style of its text and the simplicity of it exudes elegance. This will be an addition to my collection of wedding invitations. I decided to collect since I got married 2 years ago. Since then, I have collected 4 :).

Nice kitchenware and flatware

My mom loves to cook. I can say that she's really a pro in the kitchen. From delicious viands to yummy desserts, name it, she can cook it:). I especially like her chocolate rebel bars, food for the gods, pineapple bars and fruit cake. She spends countless hours in the kitchen especially when there are special occasions like birthdays, anniversaries and feasts. She also loves to learn new menus and recipes and whenever she has time, she would surf the net and check on what's featured on Yahoo! food.

Since Troy's wedding is fast approaching, and a lot of relatives are coming to the house, that means a lot of cooking for her. Mom wants to have a new set of flatware and she likes the stainless steel flatware she found on the net. Oh, did I mention that she's also very particular with neatness, cleanliness and beauty? She wants everything spic and span and really likes beautiful utensils! She told me that she needs to add the kitchenware, aside from what she already has, and the dinnerware for her growing family. Yeah, we are literally expanding and becoming many in the family. Therese, Troy's wife and Michaella, their little princess are the newest addition. Looking forward to meeting our relatives and I'm already excited for Troy's wedding.

A new sandals for Keona

Lil Keona got a new sandal from Granny. My mom is very excited for her that she bought a magenta sandal for our little girl for Troy's wedding. Keona is very excited that she wore it last night walking around from the kitchen to the living room showing it to her grandma. We had a hard time getting off the shoes on her feet because she wants it on even if it's already time for her to sleep. Oh well, excited indeed.LOL

Earthquake!

I'm at work when suddenly, it's shaking around. I pause for a while wondering if I'm just feeling dizzy but I'm really not. There's an earthquake going on. Whew! pictures of Haiti come quickly to my mind. Scary. I just stayed put and move away from the glass cabinet at my back and if it continues to shake up and intensify, I'm gonna get myself under the table and I remember in the earthquake drill we once have to "dock, hold and cover". Finally, in a few minutes, it's over. Hubby right away called me up to check if everything's all right. He also called up in our house to check Keona. Everything's fine also except that Keona has been awaken from her dreamland because of the shaking and squeaking around her.

Getting ready with Tito Troy's wedding

Keona's fever is gone and the rashes are also gradually diminishing. She's now in perfect shape:). So we are now preparing for Troy's wedding on the 21st. Keona will be a flower girl, me and hubby are cord sponsors. Keona has fitted already her dress which is part of the entourage rent. Hubby asked me what I'm gonna wear and I told him nothing:). Yeah, I don't have any formal dress:((. I'm not fond of wearing a dress. I'm more comfortable with jeans or slacks than skirt or whole body dress. So me and hubby are gonna look for something to wear. The motiff is magenta, so we'll gonna buy something in between the color of purple and pink. I'm gonna purchase also a blusher. I really don't wear make up that much. At work, I only have lipstick on and a pressed powder. Looking forward to it and I'm already excited for my little girl:).

Roseola Infantum (ak.a. baby measles)

Just came from lil Keona's pediatrician to check some rashes that are sprouting on her back and front including her face. The diagnosis? Lil Keona is suffering from Roseola infantum , a mild viral illness most commomly affecting young children from age 6 to 24 months. Roseola is primarily caused by a virus called human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6) and less commonly by human herpesvirus 7 (HHV-7). Her pediatrician explained that this disease is an opposite of German measles because in German measles, it will start with rashes and when the rashes are full blown, fever goes high also. But in Roseola infantum, fever first for 2-3 days and then when the rashes show up, the fever is gone which is what's happening with my lil gurl.

I was kinda alarmed because I thought it was German measles for she has not been immunized yet with MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) because we were focused and occupied with her operation and her recurrent UTI.

Hopefully, she'll be OK in a few days because she's one of the flower girls in Tito Troy's wedding next week. Good thing the doctor said, it will be gone in 3 days.

Here comes the fever again

Just when I rejoice of Keona's KUB (Kindney, ureter, & bladder) ultrasound result, she's having fever again. We brought her to the pedia and her doctor said that it might be just viral infection because there's no bacteria growth in her urine culture which we just did few days ago. If it's just viral, fever will be gone in 3 days. Today is her third day, and so far, she has no fever since midnight. Hopefully it will not go back today.

Things to Remember in 2010

My best friend Marianne sent me an email this morning on what are the things to keep and remember in 2010. Here they are:

Health:

  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a beggar.
  • Eat more foods that grow on trees and plants and eat less food that is manufactures in plants...
  • Live with the 3 E's - Energy, Enthusiasm, and Empathy.
  • Make time to pray if you're religious.
  • Play more games.
  • Read more books than you did in 2009.
  • Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes a day.
  • Sleep for 8 hours.
  • Take 10-30 minutes walk daily. And while you walk, smile.

Personality:

  • Don't compare your life to others. you have no idea what their journey is all about.
  • Don't have negative thoughts or things you cannot control. Instead, invest your energy in the positive present moment.
  • Don't overdo. Keep your limits.
  • Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
  • Don't waste your precious energy on gossip.
  • Dream more while you are awake.
  • Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.
  • forget issues of the past. Don't remind your partner with her/his mistakes in the past. That will ruin your present happiness.
  • Life is too short to waste time hating anyone. Don't hate others.
  • Make peace with your past so it will not spoil the present.
  • No one is in charge of your happiness except you.
  • Realize that life is a school and you are here to learn. Problems are simply part of the curriculum that appear and fade away like algebra class but the lessons you learn will last forever.
  • Smile and laugh more.
  • You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.

Society:

  • Call your family often.
  • Each day give something good to others.
  • Forgive everyone for everything.
  • Spend time time w/ people over the age of 70 and under the age of 6.
  • Try to make at least 3 people smile each day.
  • What other people think of you is none of your business.
  • Your job will not take care of you when you are sick. Your family and friends will. Stay in touch.

Life:

  • Get rid of anything that is not useful, beautiful or joyful.
  • God heals everything.
  • However good or bad the situation is, it will change.
  • No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.
  • The best is yet to come.
  • When you awake alive every morning, thank god for it.

No bacteria, finally!

I just got the result of lil Keona's urine culture and urinalysis today and I'm very happy that there's no more growth of bacteria . Her kidneys and urinary bladder ultrasound is also normal which we had last Monday. So everything's already good after 3 months of her ureter operation (for those who have not followed my blog before, lil Keona has ureteral reflux so she had surgical correction on her ureters). We'll just have a visit to her surgeon next week for a follow-up check-up on her post operation site. Yipee, we don't have to deal with recurrent UTI anymore, high fever, and those pricey antibiotics and the fear of forgetting to have her take her daily prophylasis.

New Year Celebration

I was busy during the last day of December. Since the house helps went home to their province, I did the laundry, cleaned our room and every nook of it because it is believed that we should welcome the new year with a clean house to ward off the bad energy and bad luck of year 2009. Mom follows feng shui beliefs and principles like these and whether it's true or not, it's always feels good when your house and your room is free from clutter and really clean, right? While I was busy doing my thing, Mom was also very busy in the kitchen preparing for the Media Noche for the New Year's eve. As usual, there's the lechon de leche which we ordered at Kat and Cris. Mom prepared tikoy which is believed to foster close family ties. She also prepared shrimps and Lapu-lapu fish because they are colored red and they bring good luck for the new year. There's also the spaghetti for long life:) and fruit salad for dessert. She also prepared the 13 kinds of fruits. Pappa had no choice but to take care of lil Keona because all of us were very busy:).

lil Keona carried by Pappa, still sleepy. Oh we all wore red (except Keona who just got off from bed) for it is believed to bring good luck:)

yummy, crunchy lechon(roasted pig)

Lapu-lapu fish

tikoy

13 kinds of fruits

It is a city ordinance that firecrackers are not allowed in our place so Pappa rented a videoke to make some noise. We also have toy horns. Lil Keona was asleep at 10:00 o'clock in the evening but when new year's eve came, she was awaken by the noise. So we just brought her outside and let her join us in making noise, jumping with our coins:)
